Chapter 17: Noah
It’s funny; you’d think on the drive back from closing a massive deal with one of the biggest tech companies in the world that it’d be all I could think about.
But right now, it’s barely on my mind as I take the buggy down the empty, moonlit shoreline with Kerry in the passenger seat beside me, her thigh pressed against mine.
She knows me well enough to know the consequences of doing something like that right now, especially after kissing me like that back at the Festival, not to mention what happened between us last night.
And judging by the way she’s been pressing her legs together for the last couple minutes, I’m pretty sure she wants the consequences.
I’m just not sure she knows what she’s getting into. See, she may think she has a pretty good idea of what it’s like to be my fiancée at this point, but she’s been missing one very, very crucial detail: this whole time, through all the dates, the hand-holding, and the photo-op kisses goodnight, I’ve been holding back. After I had that fucking dream about her, the one that made me come in my sleep, I knew that if I let a thought about her that was even halfway dirty stay in my head for long that I wouldn’t be able to be Mr. Nice Fiancé anymore. Not ever.
And it was working just fine until she ended up on top of me at my apartment last night, mouth on mine, fingers on my buttons. That put some dirty thoughts in my head that have stayed ever since, and now that we’re headed back to a completely empty beach for a whole weekend with all of our goals met, there’s nothing left to distract me from the sexy little redhead currently sneaking peeks at me when she thinks I’m watching the road.
I can only imagine the hilarious conflict going through her head right now. After years of hating me, pretending to be engaged to me has been creating some feelings that she never thought she’d be feeling. And now, I’m guessing she’s at the point where she’s confused as to whether or not she’s going to end up acting on those feelings.
And I’ll be happy to clear up that confusion just as soon as we get back to our campsite.
Saying nothing, but with our legs still touching under the dashboard, I steer the buggy across the sand for a few more minutes until I spot a familiar-looking bent-over palm tree not too far in the distance. And in the light of the full moon hanging over our heads, it doesn’t take long after that to spot our tent, flap hanging open like it’s waiting for us to climb inside and get comfortable.
But I actually have a couple other ideas about how this is going to go.
Slowly bringing the buggy to a stop at the edge of our campsite, I open the driver’s side door and grab Kerry’s hand, leading her out onto the sand and away from the vehicle.
